Karaoke product among ideas for multimedia buffs
VISITORS to the Software Exhibition '94 in Wan Chai were left in no doubt that the personal computer industry is in the throes of a multimedia revolution. There was a profusion of multimedia-related products.
The company that appeared to lead the multimedia charge was Singaporean firm Creative Technology through its sole distributor in Hong Kong Apex Computronics.
The firm's booth - which in the tradition of multimedia technology, was colourful and loud - dominated the exhibition.
Apex is itself a multimedia specialist, and though the company markets a hardware/software bundle at the business market, has long coveted the Hong Kong consumer market.
Apex executives must have been pleasantly surprised, then, at the reception it received - proof that the home computer market had come of age.
Although Apex and the Creative Technology product line had always generated more than just polite interest at the exhibition, this company's booth generated throngs of visitors - if only to take advantage of the 'exhibition specials' in which various products were offered at tempting prices.
