DIGITAL Equipment Corp has announced the DEClaser 3500, a 12-pages-per-minute network printer that can also send and receive PostScript documents by fax.
The printer is designed for small-to medium-size workgroups that need to print and fax high-quality documents quickly yet affordably.
'Digital delivers advanced, cost-efficient printing solutions that enable companies to work more effectively in today's competitive business environment,' said Karl McLean, components and peripherals manager for Digital's Asia region.
'Our first entry into the multifunction printer market, the DEClaser 3500 enables users to fax around the world right from their desk, saving time and money while enhancing the quality of their printed communications.' The ability to fax and receive documents directly from the networked printer eliminates the need for PCMCIA fax cards to be added to each PC and Macintosh system in the office.
In addition, the machine's 600-dpi high resolution and its plain paper printing ensure that documents are easier for recipients to read than traditional faxes. The printer's faxing capability also eliminates the time it takes the user to queue to print a document and then queue to fax a document.
The DEClaser 3500 provides good performance and output with a 20-megahertz reduced-instruction-set computing processor, three megabytes of memory that is expandable to 19 MB, and true Adobe PostScript Level 2. It also includes 53 built-in fonts and an advanced programmable font module.
