NEXT year's Legislative Council elections, the last under British administration, will be held on Sunday, September 17, the Government announced yesterday. All three sets of elections, functional constituency, direct, and election committee will be held on that day to return 60 legislators. This also marks the first time that all Legco seats will be elected. 'This arrangement is intended to facilitate voting by electors,' a government spokesman said. A notice to formally appoint the date will be published in the gazette early next year. The Boundary and Election Commission is working on the detailed arrangements for the elections and the public will be consulted, he said. Some of the arrangements - such as how to register the 2.7 million eligible voters from the nine new functional constituencies - have been tabled to the Legislative Council for approval.
