Guests out in force as HK Ballet steps out to celebrate 15th anniversary of The Nutcracker
It wouldn't be Christmas without The Nutcracker. This year, Hong Kong Ballet celebrates its 15th anniversary of producing the festive show, choreographed by the troupe's former artistic director, Stephen Jefferies.
More than 400 guests turned up on Sunday to celebrate the occasion at the ballet's annual fund-raising brunch at the Island Shangri-La. The troupe prepared a 30-minute condensed version of the show for guests, performed by principal dancers Jin Yao, Huang Zhen, soloist Liu Yu-yao and amateur ballerinas, most of them children of the benefit organisers.
A charity auction was well received, with the most popular lots being those offering personal experiences with the ballet, such as a dancing role in one of the 2012 season's productions.
