Pop diva Lady Gaga's star power has not only drawn her millions of followers but also hackers.

Her Twitter account was apparently hacked recently, putting the personal information of more than 17 million followers around the world at risk, according to WebSense - a global computer security firm.

The hacker posted a fake message in the name of Lady Gaga on her Twitter account, claiming she was giving out a free iPad2 to every fan who clicked a link in the message.

'Monsters, I'm giving away FREE iPad2 to each one of you in the spirit of the holiday,' it said. The message was followed with a Web link address which it asked interested fans to click on.

Lady Gaga addresses her fans as 'monsters' and herself as 'mother monster'. The link diverts internet users to an online survey that asks them to fill in their personal information and their preference for Apple products. It says this is a pre-condition for them to get the free iPad2.

Apple had never authorised such a survey and it was a scam for hackers to harvest unsuspected users' information, the security firm said.
