I LIVE close to North Point Fire Station. There are many occasions when I am woken in the middle of the night by sirens from passing fire engines. This happens well after 11pm. I fully understand the need to turn on sirens full blast when the streets are busy to warn drivers and pedestrians of the approaching fire engine. However, why is this necessary in the middle of the night, when so few people are in the streets, because most of us are at home trying to sleep? Why must hundreds of residents be woken up in North Point, because there is a small fire in Causeway Bay or Wan Chai? Could they not just turn on the sirens as they are approaching the fire site?
