Political advisers for Guangzhou have offered bold proposals on the role of a key provincial development project during a five-day annual session that ends today.
The Nansha New Area development zone, which is being built on the platform of co-operation with Hong Kong and Macau, has become a focal point of discussion among delegates to the Guangzhou Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference, the capital city's top political advisory body, especially by those delegates from Hong Kong.
'Nansha is as big as Singapore. The advantages of the environment and cost could attract Hong Kong businesses to settle in Nansha,' said Eric Fok Kai-shan, vice-president of the Hong Kong-based Fok Ying Tung Group and one of the 100 delegates from Hong Kong and Macau.
Chen Jianhua, the recently appointed acting mayor of Guangzhou, said 60 square kilometres of Nansha had been earmarked for development under a closer economic partnership arrangement.
According to a work report by the Guangzhou government, officials there will complete a plan for the development of the Nansha New Area, which they hope the central government will approve this year.
Grace Foo Kam Chu, founder and chairwoman of Soundwill Holdings, suggested a large digital information port be built in Nansha. She thought the government could not only invite the world's top 500 hi-tech businesses to invest, but also promising and innovative small enterprises.
