THE general manager of a rubber and plastics company had a forged contract which stated a firm had agreed to sell his company more than 70 tonnes of rubber, Eastern Court was told yesterday. Mainland citizen Tan Tiexing, 39, pleaded not guilty to possessing a document which was purportedly a contract between Bayer China Company Limited and Guangzhou Sunreach International Rubber Industrial Company Limited, covering the period between January 28 and June 6. The court was told Tan had been general manager of Hong Kong-based Sunny Rubber and Plastics Company Limited, a firm jointly owned by Sunreach and another Chinese company. Prosecutor Louisa Lai said Bayer had not entered into a contract with Sunreach on January 28. She said neither Tan's company nor Bayer had given Tan authority for such a contract. The court heard that Tan told police he signed the document but denied knowing it was false. Magistrate Judianna Barnes will rule this morning on whether there is a case for Tan to answer.
