1 Necklace
Dog tags and chunky chains are passe - instead, opt for leather styles for a more masculine and modern look.

2 Cufflinks While men's shirts tend to be conservative, cufflinks are a great way to show off your personality. Designs vary from round barrel shapes and colourful silk knots to classic squares. The choice is completely up to you.

3 Tie bars 
They may seem old fashioned, but they add spice to formal wear. Go for metal styles with added texture.

4 Bracelet 
Diamond bracelets and studs are out - instead, go for a thin bangle style in oxidised silver for  a rock 'n' roll look.

5 Ring 
The only ring most men own is the one from their engagement,  so it's handy to have a more fashionable piece. A chunky style works best, in either gold or metal. Embellishments add a more formal touch, but keep them subtle.

6 Shirt studs 
A set of shirt studs are a must-have for black-tie events. They usually come in matching sets, but don't be afraid to mix and match materials and designs for a more contemporary look.

7 Diamond watch 
A complicated timepiece is a great conversation piece. For the evening, men can get away with diamonds studded on the watch face and dial - but never the straps.

8 Lighter Lighters were a must-have fashion accessory in the 1920s, and are now back in vogue. Be experimental with them, so go bold with different colours, materials and stones.
