Chief executive rivals to brief transport subsector

Former chief secretary Henry Tang Ying-yan, pan-democrat leader Albert Ho Chun-yan (pictured) and Leung Chun-yin, former convenor of the Executive Council, will attend the Election Committee transport subsector's consultation forum. They are the leading contenders vying for the votes of the 1,200-member committee to be the city's next chief executive, after the incumbent Donald Tsang Yam-kuen's term ends in July. Each candidate will get one hour to present policies and respond to questions raised by the subsector's members.

Lights on for Spring Lantern Festival

It may be winter outside, but the Spring Lantern Festival is already here. Among celebrations across the city marking the event, the Yuen Long Shap Pat Heung Rural Committee will hold the Pun Choi food banquet, with a lantern lighting ceremony also held for newborn boys. Elderly people will bring pork. In Sai Kung, various associations will stage a Cantonese opera.

Republican rivals on road to Nevada and Maine

Republican presidential hopefuls are heading to Nevada and Maine, with front runner Mitt Romney seeking to seize on his big Florida primary victory while runner-up Newt Gingrich (pictured) seeks to convince the public he is still in the race. Romney, 64, can expect a boost from fellow Mormons in Nevada, while voters in Maine are also holding caucuses today. Gingrich, 68, shocked the party when he thumped Romney in South Carolina last month, but his support sank fast in Florida, and Romney now has the momentum.
