Master of E-Commerce OUHK

The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) is offering a master's degree in electronic commerce to help executives manage web-based businesses.

The leader of the programme, Dr Nigel Leung, says that the course focuses more on business skills than on technology. 'Students are taught how to do marketing and promotion online, and skills in running online businesses. Technical aspects, such as how to build and maintain websites, are taught as electives,' he says.

The programme prepares executive managers for information management, business management and electronic commerce. 'Students are trained to become proficient in analysing and directing business strategies, as well as in planning, designing and managing e-commerce systems,' says Leung. 'Graduates are ready to become executive-level officers, directors or senior consultants at web businesses.'

The programme is delivered through distance learning. In addition to teaching materials that students can review at their own pace, there are resources for online discussion, where students can interact with their tutors and one another. 'Telephone tutoring is also available for students who are having difficulties,' says Leung.

All the materials are available online, so students can study even when they're on businesses trips. There are also face-to-face tutorials every month to monitor progress.
