Hong Kong has an outstanding tertiary education market with some of the best ranked schools in the world at present. On e of these is Sydney-based Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) in co-operation with the Hong Kong Management Association, which offers a range of master's in management degrees geared towards various industries.
MGSM offers the same programmes that are taught by the same faculty in Australia. 'MGSM is one of a very small number of international business schools in Hong Kong to deliver on this promise,' says Richard Petty, associate dean (international) and professor in management (accounting and finance), MGSM.
The school has an internationally recognised education system with a global outlook, and offers a good grounding in 'managing finances, people and markets'. Students also have the opportunity to develop a strategic business perspective, focus on the competitive advantage of the enterprise and choose a specialised field of management.
'MGSM gives managers the skills they need to excel at a high level in business. The programmes are taught by world class faculty, many of whom have extensive experience in business at a senior level, in addition to possessing stellar academic credentials,' Petty says.
'The faculty is well placed to guide students and to counsel them about their study options, and to help them in practical problem solving,' he adds.
All of the courses build on three foundation units. These satisfy the requirements for a postgraduate certificate in management and provide students with a solid grounding in accounting and financial management, people and marketing management.
The next step is the postgraduate diploma in management, and this requires another three units with the intended specialisation. Students of both degrees may decide to continue and join the master's degree, which they can do, as long as they have an undergraduate university degree and two years of work experience.
