In the story headlined 'Call to strike ethnic status from ID cards' on page A5 on Wednesday, Dr Barry Sautman was misquoted. He did not say that what Zhang Weiqun wrote in his article were lies, but that Zhang's views were in line with what experts have told the central government in recent years. We apologise for the error.
