A MILLIONAIRE Hong Kong businessman broke the heart of Canto-pop star Sally Yeh by refusing to marry her because he preferred white women, it has been claimed.

The rejection by Howard Yeung Ping-leung, a director of jewellery company King Fook Holdings, left Yeh devastated and in tears over 'his other women', a US court heard last week.

Grace George, a former secretary who has accused Mr Yeung of sexual harassment and is claiming wrongful dismissal, said the singer poured out her heart as Ms George chauffeured her around San Francisco.

Yeh said she wanted to marry Mr Yeung but he preferred to 'date white women in the United States', according to Ms George, who was giving evidence during the third week of the case before San Francisco Superior Court.

'She was upset by that and said she couldn't put up with Howard's women,' Ms George said. 'He also made her cry because he still wanted sex with her.' Ms George worked for Mr Yeung, 39, at the San Francisco offices of Yeung Chi Shing Estates. Over the past three weeks, he has been accused of persistent sexual harassment and of offering Ms George's sexual favours to various friends and business colleagues - charges he has consistently denied.

During last week's hearing, Ms George said she would be willing to accept an out-of-court settlement of US$4 million (HK$30.9 million), but Mr Yeung rejected the offer.

The revelations will also come as an embarrassing blow to Yeh, the Taiwanese-born beauty whose love-life sparked controversy earlier in the year.
