Soundbite 'I was a quitter at sports when I was a junior secondary student,' Ryan says.
'Zimon Chan Chun-kit, my school PE teacher, encouraged me to take part in the young basketball athletes training scheme. I enrolled, but attended only the first two or three sessions because I thought it was very boring.
'Yet over the next two years, I realised that most players who I'd been with in the scheme had gone on to play at a level I could only dream of. Some of them were even core players in Hong Kong's under-18 team. So I regretted not being more determined before.
'So I signed up for the district basketball training scheme and had a great time with my teammates. Winning the title together boosted my confidence.
