SPECIALTY shops that stock Christmas decorations, ornaments, hand-painted gift items, soft toys and many other practical and novelty items can be found in the Prince's Building in Central. At some shops, there are items that have already been gift wrapped - ideal for the shopper in a hurry. Bed & Bath Country stocks more items than that implied in its name. 'Every Christmas we change our 'country' theme to that of Christmas, so customers will find lots of festive presents inside our shop,' Edwin Fong, the retail manager, said. 'Our major products this year are exclusive hand-made decorations.' The decorations include some exquisite gold paper angels ($60) and shiny gold baubles (each $40-$50). Bed & Bath also has a selection of gift boxes ($65 to $95) in festive red, green or gold. Christmas pot-pourri ($98) is another popular item. According to Mr Fong, seasonal fragrances were bought as gifts for men and women. Another must-visit store in Prince's Building is Koala Blue, which is brimming with potential presents for women and children. 'Novelty and practical gifts are really what most people are looking for, especially those who do not have the time to go around looking for gift ideas,' Agnes Chin, the owner, said. 'We can suggest suitable items to customers who come in at the last minute seeking inspiration - many are pre-packaged to save time and effort over wrapping and all are priced under $200.' Koala Blue's selection of socks and hosiery is recommended. 'The socks and hosiery market is creating a storm in the fashion world and knee-high or thigh-high lengths are hot this winter,' Ms Chin said. 'We have geared our gift range very much into this direction, so that consumers can buy something with an up-to-the-minute look.' Socks come in sets of two and retail at between $75 and $125. Each pack contains a knee or thigh-length 'sox' together with a novelty 'Christmas sox'. Another specialty is sweat-shirts with a Christmas motif. Imported from the US, they cost less than $170, are fun to wear and add spice to the holiday mood. 'Killer buttons', or button covers, dress up a blouse or jacket for teenagers or adults. 'If you are buying for a person with a sense of humour, I would suggest buttons from our novelty range, featuring Christmas trees or gingerbread men. For someone who likes to achieve a classical look, the Victorian hearts are just the thing,' Ms Chin said.
