A report by the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research gives convincing evidence that red and processed meats increase bowel cancer risk, while fibre-rich foods protect against the disease.

In Hong Kong bowel cancer is the second-most common form of the disease. Experts recommend limiting consumption of red meat (beef, lamb, pork) to five or six portions a week, and avoiding processed meats (ham, sausages, bacon, salami, hotdogs) altogether.
