I REFER to the interview with Taslima Nasrin which appeared in the South China Morning Post on November 26.
As a young Muslim girl I would like to respond to the views she expressed.
I believe that Islam is an eternal religion. The Koran's contents do not have to be 'updated' according to changing social trends in the world. The Koran was written with the intention of providing a way of life for people, guidelines which are applicable forever, not just for the era during which they were written.
Those who have read and understood our Holy Book will know that many of the social evils we see today had already been predicted more than 1,400 years ago.
In her interview, Ms Nasrin states that religion tries to impose a form of blindness, a passivity. I object to this statement.
Islam encourages one to question one's thoughts, because its guidelines cover every aspect of life.
Islam has never attempted to suppress people's curiosity. On the contrary, it encourages people to question Islamic laws before accepting them.
