HONG KONG woman Angel Mou Pui-peng will be hanged in Singapore for drug offences two days before Christmas.

Mou's mother, Wong Siu-mui, received a brief telegram message from Singapore prison authorities yesterday telling her that Mou, 25, would be receiving visitors three days before the scheduled hanging.

Prisoners on death row in Singapore are themselves told of the exact date of execution days ahead.

A Portuguese news agency said the superintendent of the Moon Crescent unit in Singapore's Changi Prison also told Mou's mother, who lives in Hong Kong, that she could claim the body on the day of the execution.

The news comes two weeks after a surprise reprieve granted to Hong Kong man Daniel Chan Chi-pun, 38. Chan was told on the eve of his execution that it would be delayed so he could have time to write his own petition for clemency.

A friend who recently visited Mou said she was 'peaceful'.

'It was a nice meeting. I don't think she was in desperation. She appears to be all right,' he said.
