Italian brand Dainese, which specialises in protective gear for motorcyclists, mountain bikers and skiers, has opened its first D-store in Hong Kong, on Tsat Tsz Mui Road in North Point. Founded in 1972, its products have been worn by the likes of celebrated motorcyclists Giacomo Agostini and Freddie Spencer. Gordon Choy, managing director of local Dainese distributor MF Jebsen Automotive, said he had been a biker since he was 16, and could not hide his fondness for the Dainese jacket he wore for Tuesday's grand opening. '[Former world motorcycling champion] Kevin Schwantz is my hero,' he said. 'This jacket is a replica of [one he wore]. I got it in England in 1992. It's not available any more - it was a very limited edition. A lot of people want it.' Choy, alongside guests including model-actress Ankie Beilke, jockey Zac Purton and Dainese sales and marketing director Andrea Nalesso, who flew in from Italy, performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony. And perhaps hungry for change, Purton rode a motorcycle and posed for photographs.
