DUDLEY Wood, secretary of the Rugby Union, gave the thumbs down to the idea of a competition involving the Five Nations countries at club and district level. A commercial firm has floated a plan to bring together the top English, French and Welsh clubs, plus the Scottish and Irish districts in a new tournament. But Wood said: 'The Rugby Union are not interested in this proposal at the moment, there was no way it can be fitted into our programme which is very congested. 'The Unions would have to approve the dates and we have not even been approached. 'There may be a pan-European project in the future, but there is not the same urgency on our clubs to have extra competition as there is in Wales.'
