HOMESICK Dubliners and lovers of traditional Irish fun fairs are in luck, Perkie is in town! Yes indeed, just when you thought you left him in the murky depths of the Irish Sea, Perkie the larger-than-life bear is here with the popular carnival that bears his name. Perkie rates highly with the kiddies in Europe and is offering to get Hong Kong kids out of their parents' hair during the Christmas holidays. Along with all the usual games and rides, he's brought with him a traditional Italian carousel, a classic helter-skelter and a 12-metre ferris wheel which will give fabulous views of our increasingly fragrant harbour. The whole fair was shipped over from Ireland and is sure to stimulate the memories of Dubliners who frequented seaside carnivals as a kid. Perkie is actually related to the co-founder of Delaney's Irish Pub in Wan Chai, Sam Roch-Perks, who is the great nephew of fair founder Jumbo Perks and his daughter Sal Perks now the carnival's head honcho. The family ties have brought the fair to the territory which will run at the Cultural Centre Piazza until January 2.
