Uno Duo Trio - Lana's Italian Home-Cooking

Tel: 3489 3862
Open: Saturday and Sunday noon-3pm; nightly 6pm-midnight
Cuisine: Italian

Price: about HK$400 without drinks or the service charge.

Ambience: it's a bit like eating in someone's living room.

Pros: we enjoyed most of what we ordered.

Cons: although there were only two other diners, service was shambolic. Some of the restaurant policies are downright strange. All the pasta dishes were marked IS, and some had 1/2F. The waiter said 1/2F meant it was available as a half portion, and made with fresh pasta, but IS (a full portion) was made with dry pasta. He explained the owner couldn't make enough fresh pasta to offer full portions. I was told when I booked that they didn't have a wine list and we could bring our own wine, but we'd be charged HK$150 per bottle. The menu states, '12 per cent service charge applicable'. But the receipt wasn't itemised, so we weren't sure if they added the service charge or corkage, and don't know what we were charged for an off-menu item. Our starters didn't come at the same time. My guest ordered fresh potato gnocchi with pork ragu (HK$238) as his main, but just as they served me my main course of sea urchin pasta (HK$278), the waiter said the gnocchi was unavailable. My guest, wanting something quickly, asked for an off-menu item of fresh tagliatelle with pork ragu, which was oily. I couldn't use my credit card to pay because the machine wasn't working.

Recommended dishes: zucchini blossoms with mozzarella and tomato ragu (HK$158) were hot and crisp. Sardine, raisin and borlotti bean soup (HK$108) was richly textured, with whole raisins adding a sweet note. Sea urchin linguine (HK$278) could have used a little less garlic, but it was still enjoyable.

What else? We asked about the Lana behind the name, and were told she was in hospital - which could explain the service and food mishaps.
