Just the ticket for cyclists

Plenty of people like to cycle, but not everyone wants to grease up the chain or scrub road dirt out of the gears after 70km in the saddle. Cyclists prefer a bit of luxury after a day of hills and heat.

Taiwanese entrepreneur Tseng Chung-shin, who was known for launching offbeat hotels, opened the Yoho Bike Hotel specially for cyclists in 2009.

Taiwan's Giant Manufacturing, the biggest bike maker in the world, helps run the resort, while locally owned Landis Hotels & Resorts is the chief adviser.

The high-end resort on the south coast of Taiwan creates space in guests' rooms for bike storage, hiring staff to help clean and repair vehicles and offering free rentals to guests who don't bring their own bicycles. There's even a three-day bike-and-dine package.

Travel and cycling industry authorities know of no other hotel geared towards every whim of bike-riding guests all year round. Hotels in Europe, the United States and Taiwan just rent out bikes and store those that guests bring themselves.

'Many hotels cater to cyclists during events, but they do not offer cyclist-focused amenities,' says Tamika Figgs, research manager of the American Hotel and Lodging Association Information Centre.
