Lingo has staff tongue-tied

WORD has it new senior staff at STAR TV are having a little trouble coming to grips with television studio lingo.

Frequent viewers of dubbed Cantonese and European movies which often have poor synchronisation between dialogue and mouth movements will be familiar with a problem termed 'goldfishing'.

Transmission problems can also cause a goldfishing effect and when STAR's northern beam was playing up last week an enthusiastic new recruit burst into a meeting of the station's big chiefs and squawked: 'Our northern beam is fishbowling.' Sounds more like a visual special effect to me.
