A Frenchman obsessed with a young Hong Kong woman was jailed for 10 months after he assaulted and terrified her in a bid to get her back. Moussard Laurent, suffering a 'typical midlife crisis', pushed the woman - who fell and suffered injuries - and held a knuckleduster against her while demanding sex, the District Court was told. In sentencing Laurent, 42, District Court Judge Kevin Browne accepted that the defendant was in a highly agitated and obsessed state while trying to re-establish a relationship with the victim, referred to as X. Laurent, an executive at an airline catering company, pleaded guilty earlier this month to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possession of a stunning device and two knuckledusters, which are prohibited weapons. Laurent met X, then 21, in 2005 when she was his subordinate. They later worked for different companies and started a relationship in 2008 soon after his wife gave birth to twin daughters. Laurent, now divorced, had tried to get back with X since they broke up in May last year. On September 16 he arrived as she was about to leave home for work and pushed her back into her flat where she fell, suffering abrasions and bruises to her hand, finger and shoulder. He then took her to a taxi and demanded that she have sex with him at a Tsuen Wan hotel where he was staying. He put on a knuckleduster and held it between their thighs. X persuaded him to let her go to work first and reconsider, and she made a police report soon after. In a recorded conversation between the pair two weeks before the assault, he threatened to commit suicide if she refused to return to him, the court heard. In mitigation, his lawyer said Laurent's actions had been out of character. Laurent had been in the throes of a typical midlife crisis while besotted by a young woman.
