Glorious trial points to happy Days for feature prospect

Glorious Days turned on the afterburners in the closing stages of a trial last week to show he will be a force to be reckoned with in the Champions Mile on Sunday.

Since the John Size-trained four-year-old cantered to a four from four local record, he has been defeated twice at Group level, but has lost no admirers. First, Lucky Nine out-fought him over 1,400m before Admiration got the better of him over a mile.

Last Friday, Douglas Whyte restrained Glorious Days from the start in his 1,200m dirt trial, spotting the leader as much as 10 lengths in the early stages. He steadily improved throughout, but let down explosively at the top of the straight to hit the line first, beating Best Eleven (Weichong Marwing) by a neck.

In the process he blew by another Champions Mile entrant Beauty Flash (Matthew Chadwick), a fading star who seems to have a massive task ahead of him in Sunday's Group One.

Given lighter morning duties since a tired-looking sixth in March, Best Eleven was one of two Tony Cruz-trained horses to trial well, the other being Let's Goal (Marwing), who is entered in a Class Four over 1,800m on Sunday.

After settling near the tail in the second heat, Let's Goal followed trial winner Voile Rouge (Whyte) throughout, moving nicely to the line to finish second.
