TONY Read (South China Morning Post, December 12) must surely realise what the song, Oh Lord Won't You Buy Me a Mercedes-Benz, was originally written as an attack on the very same society that Mercedes-Benz and Zung Fu seem to wish to promote.

In my opinion these companies are 'shooting themselves in the foot' by broadcasting such an advertisement, but then again, perhaps they feel that Hong Kong residents are oblivious to sarcasm.
