Capture the beauty of the ocean on film and you could be invited to join a National Geographic filming assignment - or at least win some beauty products. The photo contest is being organised by National Geographic and La Mer as part of the beauty brand's campaign for World Oceans Day, which falls on June 8. The brand announced the campaign last Thursday at the French Window restaurant in IFC Mall. Adventurer and banking heir David de Rothschild was invited to talk to guests about his passion for the ocean. 'Our partnership started in 2010, when I helped tell [La Mer's] story with a short film starring January Jones. What's interesting now is that La Mer is telling my story and that's how our relationship works,' he said. De Rothschild shared his experience of sailing on Plastiki - a catamaran made from recycled plastic bottles. In 2009, he was part of a team that travelled nearly 11,000 nautical miles on it, from San Francisco to Hawaii then Sydney. On the importance of protecting the oceans, he said: 'In Hong Kong, you live on an island surrounded by ocean and there are many ways you can help. You can start by thinking about what you eat, and with that alone you can make a massive difference. If you can't give up fish, at least be selective.' You can post photo entries on the webpage nationalgeographic.com/lameroceans - which goes live on May 15 - before July 31.
