The pandemic cruelly exposed the costs of financial exclusion for millions of Filipinos but also catalysed financial digitalisation. Countries in the region must work together to ensure that the benefits permeate borders.
While the economy is not out of the woods yet, the Philippines has – unlike many countries – ample monetary and fiscal space to draw upon to fuel recovery, and a young, well-educated and mostly English-speaking population.
