Chart of the day: The outer limits

Taiwan's leading share index has raced ahead of 2011's high without so much as a backward glance. Traded volume well above the recent average is considered a sign of inherent strength. But technical charts suggest the rally is close to its limit. Prices have pulled well ahead of trend support and face massive technical resistance between 9,800 and the psychologically important 10,000-point level, which has been in place since 1997. That should trigger a sharp downward correction in shares.
