E-commerce giant Alibaba Group said the firm and its affiliate Ant Financial Services Group paid a combined 23.8 billion yuan in tax in China last year as its strong sales continued.

That means Alibaba remains the largest tax payer among Chinese internet companies. The figure marks a sizeable increase from the 17.8 billion yuan paid in 2015 and 11 billion yuan in 2014.

The company also said it has created more than 30 million jobs in China.

By the year ending March 2016, Alibaba had sold a record 3 trillion yuan of goods through its online shopping platforms, including the popular Taobao.com.

Alibaba owns the South China Morning Post.
