New World Development has launched a free, large-scale crowd-donation platform called Share for Good that allows Hongkongers to donate needed supplies to those infected by Covid-19 and isolated at home.

Share for Good is the first platform of its kind in the city, where donations can be matched to beneficiaries and then collected freely to be delivered to those in need. It is designed especially to help the underprivileged, whose lives have been heavily affected by Hong Kong’s Omicron-fuelled fifth wave of Covid-19 infections.

The platform uses an innovative method that allows for quick and targeted matching of donors and beneficiaries, improving the efficiency of the donate-and-deliver process. Key partners include Yan Chai Hospital and more than 30 non-profit organisations. Logistics platform Lalamove is providing logistical support to Share for Good to ensure that donations from anywhere in the city can be matched, handled and delivered safely to everyone in need.

New World is taking the lead by donating 200,000 items and, together with Lalamove, has committed to covering all of the logistical costs of the platform, which can be accessed through the official mobile app and website.

“The fifth wave of Covid-19 is creating an immense challenge for Hong Kong,” New World CEO Adrian Cheng Chi-kong said. “Through the online platform Share for Good, we hope to unite different communities during this difficult time, and using technology, we can quickly and efficiently match donors with beneficiaries, so that all supplies effectively reach those in need. We believe that every donation is an act of sharing love among the people of Hong Kong.”

Target beneficiaries include low-income families, those living in subdivided units, elderly people living on their own, young cancer patients, those with mental disabilities, the homeless, and ethnic minorities.

Items that have been identified as most needed by target beneficiaries include rapid antigen test kits, oximetres, cellular SIM cards, supermarket cash vouchers, fast food coupons, face shields and cooling gel sheets.
