Wang Shuaiting personally hand-wrote a letter to China Travel International Investment Hong Kong asking to resign as chairman of the Hong Kong-listed company for "personal reasons", China Travel's executive director Xu Muhan revealed yesterday at a press conference.

Xu said Wang was in Beijing earlier this month when the authorities asked him to cooperate in an investigation. The next day, Wang wrote a letter to the board of China Travel asking to resign from all his posts in the company, including his position as chairman and executive director, Xu added.

On May 19, China Travel posted an announcement on the website of the Hong Kong stock exchange saying Wang had resigned as executive director and chairman from that day.

"His letter to us stated he was voluntarily resigning from all posts for personal reasons," Xu said.

"He wrote it in his own hand. The letter was clearly written. There were no problems."
