The mainland has maintained its lead over Taiwan as the Asia-Pacific market with the most fast-growing technology, media and telecommunications companies, according to a survey by global consultancy Deloitte.

This year's edition of the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia-Pacific, released yesterday, showed that 100 mainland companies made the list, compared with 90 from perennial leader Taiwan.

The mainland's total was, however, down from 128 ranked firms last year.

Five mainland companies were in the top 10 of the annual ranking of the 500 private and public technology, media and telecommunications firms that record the highest revenue growth rates over three years.

"The latest ranking showed that there are a lot of fast-growing players on the mainland in the internet, software, telecommunications, media, semiconductor and green technology sectors," William Chou, the managing partner at Deloitte's China Growth Enterprise Programmes, said.

The mainland overtook Taiwan in the Technology Fast 500 last year and was also ahead of it in 2010.
