Beijing has appointed Zhang Yong, the former head of China Food and Drug Administration, as deputy chief of the National Development and Reform Commission, the country’s top economic planner. Two other deputies – Xie Zhenhua and Zhu Zhixin – have been removed from the commission’s official website. (Securities Times)

The Chinese government has finished an inspection on six state-owned enterprises, including China Hi-tech Group, OCT Group and Energy China, and has detected power-for-money deals leading to losses on projects. This is the second batch of SOE inspections amid the authorities’ anti-graft drive. (Beijing News)

Hong Kong’s Ocean Park has suffered a 10 per cent decline in visitor numbers during the lunar new year festival from the previous year’s holiday, as mainlanders opted for Japan and South Korea. The number of visitors to the theme park hit a record high 7.8 million last year, up 4 per cent. Half of these were from the mainland, with about 30 per cent from Hong Kong.
