The Guangzhou-based company will work with Emil Frey, one of Europe’s largest automotive retail organisations, in the Netherlands. Emil Frey will develop Xpeng’s sales and service network and manage its branded stores throughout the country.

In Sweden, Billa, the country’s largest automotive dealer and distributor, will act as Xpeng’s local agency, selling its cars and offering services. Xpeng will also open its first self-operated European store in Stockholm this week, hoping to capitalise on high EV awareness and use in European countries to reinforce its go-global strategy.

“Our global journey starts from Europe, propelled by our commitment to smart EV use,” He Xiaopeng, a co-founder and CEO of Xpeng, said in a statement. “We strongly support the EV development strategy in Europe and are forging partnerships with top-tier local players to accelerate energy conservation, emission reduction and electrification in Europe.”

Xpeng, among three Chinese EV makers viewed as rivals to Tesla in China, has been working to expand its footprint in Europe since the end of 2020, when it exported its first batch of 100 G3 battery-powered sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) to Norway. In August 2021, it announced that its flagship P7 cars would also be sold in Norway.
