The United Kingdom government said it is planning to keep in place anti-dumping measures on cold rolled flat steel from China and Russia first put in place six years ago.
The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA), a new agency created following Britain’s exit from the European Union (EU), is reviewing tariffs on a series of steel products made in China. A similar measure regarding wire rod made in China was maintained by the agency in February.

“The TRA’s provisional findings, contained in the Statement of Essential Facts (SEF), would mean that this UK industry, predominantly based in South Wales, continues to be protected from dumped products from China and Russia,” the agency said.

The agency is conducting a 30-day comment period and will make a final recommendation at a later date.

The review did not consider Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and associated sanctions, the agency said.

The TRA said that 40 per cent to 50 per cent of the cold rolled flat steel in Britain is made domestically, with the rest coming from imports. The metal is found in a variety of consumer products, such as radiators, domestic appliances and metal furniture, as well as automobiles.
