Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Xpeng has unveiled an upgraded version of its P7 flagship sedan powered by an in-house artificial intelligence (AI) chip, aiming to attract technology-obsessed drivers away from bestselling cars like the Tesla Model 3 and Xiaomi SU7.

He Xiaopeng, CEO of the Guangzhou-based carmaker, said the refreshed P7 would set the benchmark for next-generation EVs, and highlights technological advances of Chinese smart EVs.

“The next-generation P7 is more than a car, it’s Xpeng’s answer for the AI era in form and function,” the CEO told a virtual launch ceremony on Thursday.
