ChinaVision Media gets new chief in shake-up
Alibaba picks media veteran to head group acquired through HK$6.2 billion deal

E-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding has started its restructuring of ChinaVision Media Group with the appointment of a new chief executive, Zhang Qiang, with effect from yesterday.

Liu Chunning, a former Tencent Holdings executive who now heads Alibaba's digital entertainment business, is no longer the acting chief executive but will continue to be an executive director.
Hangzhou-based Alibaba paid HK$6.24 billion for a majority stake in ChinaVision in March.
The deal gives Alibaba access to ChinaVision's television dramas and films as it competes with other mainland internet titans including Tencent and Baidu for users.
Zhang has more than 25 years of experience in the media industry, according to a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange.
He has been a vice-president of China Film since 2011 and was previously a deputy general editor of Beijing Television and chairman of Beijing Forbidden City Film.
