Japanese consumer confidence declines

Japanese consumer confidence fell last month, a Cabinet Office survey showed on Tuesday, in a sign of waning confidence in the likelihood of wages and employment improving.

The survey’s sentiment index for general households, which includes views on incomes and jobs, came in at 41.2, down from 45.4 in September. A reading below 50 suggests consumer pessimism.

The Cabinet Office kept its assessment on consumer sentiment unchanged, saying it is in an improving trend.
