Societe Generale said housing starts and property sales acted as a drag on the mainland economy, which remained lacklustre across the board. However, SG believes October data will be more critical. At the end of September, the central bank relaxed rules on mortgage borrowing, which SG said should be more effective in stabilising the housing market than local policies, but not enough to reverse the downtrend.
