Authorities have released strategic plans for the integrated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei over the next 15 years, turning the neighbouring areas into a megalopolis. Beijing will remain the nation's centre for politics and culture. Tianjin will be a pilot zone for advanced manufacturing and economic reform, while Hebei will serve as a key base for trade and logistics. ()
Jin Liqun, China's former vice-finance minister, was unanimously named as president-elect of the Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank as China took another step in its bid to create a rival to the World Bank and Asian Development Bank. ()
