Thailand in talks with Muslim rebels The Thai government begins its first formal peace talks with the Muslim rebel group that has waged a years-long insurgency in its southern provinces. The talks with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional take place on the Malaysian island of Langkwai under the mediation of the Malaysian government. Violence has escalated in the south since 2001, with police and military targets frequently attacked and scores of lives lost. Cypriot banks due to reopen at last The banks of Cyprus are due to reopen for the first time in almost two weeks as protests and uncertainty continue despite a huge bailout for the island's ailing banking sector. The reopening will be accompanied by capital controls in an effort to prevent a rapid flow of cash out of the island. Despite scepticism in Nicosia, the island's central bank governor pledged on Tuesday to make a "superhuman" effort to hit the latest reopening deadline. Uefa chiefs discuss Euro 2020 European football's governing body meets in Bulgaria to discuss plans for the 2020 European Championships. Uefa is lining up an innovative plan for the 24-team tournament which would see games spread across 13 cities in different countries. Previous tournaments, like last year's championship in Poland and the Ukraine, have been concentrated in one or two countries.
