Many old tyres were found in the rivers and open channels in Sheung Shui after the heavy rain on May 22. Some are still stuck in river beds and clogging watercourses. Reporters discovered that the tyres had washed down from an open area near Tai Lung Hang Village, where a recycling company has rented the land. It has stockpiled more than 10,000 old tyres, some of which fell into the river during the rain and drifted downstream until they reached the open channel near Ching Ho Estate, a public housing estate. Villagers in Tai Leung Hang Village said that the tyres might cause severe flooding in the future if there was heavy rainfall.
