Verdict in Chongqing sex case
A Chongqing court today issues its verdict on the woman at the centre of a sex scandal that has implicated more than 20 government or state enterprise officials in Chongqing. Zhao Hongxia and her former boss Xiao Ye, were accused of extortion using a sex video involving Lei Zhengfu, former party secretary of Beibei district. Separately, a Chongqing court will also mete out a verdict today on Lei, who is charged with corruption.
 
Internet summit in Hong Kong
Some of the brightest minds in the online world gather at Cyberport for the World Internet Developer Summit. Hundreds of developers will meet, learn and exchange experiences and ideas on different development platforms during the two-day event, which concludes at the Hong Kong Science Park tomorrow. The main theme for the conference and workshops will be "big data".
 
Two in court for soldier's murder
Two men charged with the murder of a British soldier on a busy London street make their second appearance in court. Michael Adebowale and Michael Adebolajo are accused of hacking to death Drummer Lee Rigby, a 25-year-old who served in Afghanistan with the British forces, on the streets of Woolwich. Both have been remanded in custody since their arrests.
 
News Corp empire split in two
News Corporation splits its publishing group from its more lucrative entertainment business, a move running parallel to owner Rupert Murdoch's split from his wife, Wendi Deng. The News Corp spin-off will include Dow Jones, the New York Post, the Sun and Times newspapers in the UK, and Australian television and newspaper businesses, as well as Amplify, a digital-education startup.
 
Department store chain begins expansion
Japanese-themed department store chain Yata hopes to take advantage of the weaker yen when it opens its first new Hong Kong store in almost two years in Tsuen Wan. The 87,000 sq ft store is one of three it will open between now and September, increasing the chain's total floor area by one-third to 400,000 sq ft. The other two shops will be supermarkets in Tuen Mun and Mong Kok. Yata is a subsidiary of property giant Sun Hung Kai.
 
Tenders open for Murray Building

The long-running saga of the Murray Building in Central takes a big step forward as final conditions of sale are published and tenders open for its sale. Surveyors expect the 27-storey former government office building to sell for between HK$3.25 billion and HK$4.23 billion. The government first proposed turning the four-decades-old complex into a luxury hotel three years ago and strong interest is expected from developers and hotel operators.
