Chinese and Indian officials meet in an attempt to hammer out a new agreement on border security and defence co-operation as officials from the foreign ministry and the People's Liberation Army meet their counterparts in New Delhi. The issue has stepped up in importance after a stand-off in April after Indian reports of a deep incursion by Chinese soldiers across the porous Himalayan border.
The United Nations Security Council holds its regular open debate on the situation in the Middle East, with US Secretary of State John Kerry presiding. Topics expected to come up include the Syrian war, Israel and the Palestinians and cross-border attacks into Lebanon. The debate may again expose fault lines over Syria between Washington and Beijing, as well as Moscow.
