The Hong Kong government will unveil retail sales figures for December, as well as the figures for 2013 as a whole. The value of total retail sales rose 8.5 per cent in November, a rise from 6.3 per cent for October. Sales rose 11.6 per cent by value in the first 11 months of the year. The government has attributed the increase to positive consumer sentiment and further expansion of inbound tourism, largely from the mainland. The Retail Management Association will comment on the figures later today.
The district court will deliver its verdict in a case involving an assault on Kung Ho, the nephew of the late billionaire businesswoman Nina Wang Kung Yu-sum. The 36-year-old was attacked by four people in the basement car park at the Tsuen Wan headquarters of the Chinachem group in June last year.
