Cairo court delivers corruption verdict on former president Hosni Mubarak

An Egyptian court is set to issue a ruling today in the embezzlement case of former president Hosni Mubarak, his two sons and four engineers. The defendants have been accused of seizing more than 100 million Egyptian pounds (HK$108 million) that was designated for the presidential palaces. Mubarak stepped down from the presidency during the 2011 Egyptian revolution with an estimated fortune of up to US$70 billion.

 

Manila will host the 23rd World Economic Forum on East Asia, which begins in the Philippine capital today. The three-day event will focus on the Asean Economic Community (AEC) scheduled to launch at the end of next year. The AEC will have a common market of some 600 million people with a combined GDP of nearly US$2 trillion. Almost all of the 10 Asean economies are expecting growth above 5 per cent this year.
