Xinhua confirmed that former security chief Zhou Yongkang was being investigated for "serious disciplinary violations" - a euphemism for corruption. The agency said the case would be handled by the party's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. The move breaks a taboo on investigations against anyone who served on the top-level Politburo Standing Committee. The move is part of the campaign by President Xi Jinping against corrupt officials.
